The latest update on this is that our developers have found a fix which should resolve the issue. It will be implemented soon in an upcoming patch.

Mercenary -> Arsenal talent Barrage doesn't work

Hey guys, I'm not seeing this internally, but after looking at the script, I did notice that the Barrage buff is removed prematurely when you are NOT dual wielding.

In other words, as long as you're dual wielding, Barrage is working as intended. If you are only wielding a single blaster, it does appear that Barrage ends prematurely. So keep both blasters handy for maximum effectiveness!

Just in case you're single-wielding though, we've fixed this bug for a future patch. Thanks for reports.

It sounds like there are two separate issues at work here. Please correct me if I'm misinterpreting!

1) Your character entered the romance "path" with Jorgan, but you didn't intend for that to happen. This should not have been possible without picking Player options marked with [Flirt], specifically:

If you did not pick any of those options, and still ended up in a romance with Jorgan, then it's a bug.

2) Once your character was on the romance path, it was not possible to "break up" with Jorgan. I believe this is currently working as intended. That said, we've definitely seen all the feedback on the matter and are discussing possible changes to the system for the future, but I don't think we're ready to talk about any of those potential changes in detail as yet. As mentioned, please don't hesitate to post your own feelings on the matter in the suggestion box to add to the feedback!
If #1 occurred, please resubmit the issue and only mention that aspect of it, in order to clarify what needs to be investigated. And, again, I'm very sorry for all the trouble this has caused for you.

Hey everyone, I'm pleased to announce that the manual APAC character transfer process is now complete. Many, many thousands of eligible characters were transferred, allowing many more players in the Asia-Pacific region access to servers with lower latency. To all of you with transferred characters, we hope you enjoy your new 'home'.

This marks the end of our first stage of character transfers. Now our focus turns to a more robust, automated and larger scale character transfer service, which is currently in active development within the studio. More details were given in an answer in today's Community Q&A, but I'll quote Dallas Dickinson here:

"We will be rolling out our Character Transfer Service in early summer. First we'll have some targeted free transfers from/to specific servers, but that will be followed with a broader system where you can either take advantage of free promotional transfers to specific servers or paid transfers to the server of your choice."

A few final notes on the APAC transfers:

Renaming issues? Please contact Customer Service

We know as part of the character transfer process if you had placeholder characters, it could be tricky to rename them. We're working to improve that for the future, but for now if you need to rename a transferred character you can contact Customer Service and ask for their assistance. Please bear in mind they're dealing with a number of requests right now, but will get to your request as soon as possible.

Live in the Asia Pacific region but didn't get transferred?

We appreciate that some players didn't get a chance to take part in the Asia-Pacific transfer process. While in the future all players will be able to take advantage of our character transfer system, for now, Customer Service is able to help with select transfers for those who would benefit from the lower latency gained from playing on an Asia Pacific server.

There are specific requirements that must be met for these requests, as follows:

• The country of residence on your account must be listed as Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore or another appropriate Asia Pacific country. You must also reside in that country.
• You must have already redeemed your product code for Star Wars: The Old Republic.
• You must have an active account, by setting up a recurring subscription or applying a Game Time Code.
• Only level 10 or above characters are eligible for transfer.
• Characters created after February 28th on an EU or US server are not eligible for transfer.

Getting characters transferred via Customer Service is a manual process with checks included. Please do not expect a transfer to complete quickly. However, if you are qualified, Customer Service will be happy to help you.

Field Respec is not the same as dual spec.

No, that's not it.

As we said, we'll have more details to share closer to launch. Between Group Finder and a Character Transfer Service, our plans are designed to allow more players to play together more often.

This is what we do on a daily basis here in the office. Our community representatives give us daily reports on top issues and we investigate them and bring them up to our development team. When we have a solution or some information to post, we make sure to update any major forum threads related to the issue.

I suggest checking out our patch notes, community blog, news site, weekly Q&As, Weekly Dev Track Summary Blogs, Weekly Patch Notes Updates, and of course, here in General Discussion, to name a few places.

Of course, our general policy is to not talk in detail about specific features until we are 100% sure that it is on its way. You can imagine what would happen if we gave a specific date, months in advance, only to come up against an unforeseen obstacle that causes us to delay a particular feature. This is why you'll see many replies by us and our developers that simply say "soon".

Liebe Spieler, wir möchten euch mitteilen, dass wir am Dienstag, dem 1. Mai, von 7 Uhr MESZ bis 11 Uhr MESZ vierstündige Wartungsarbeiten vornehmen werden. Da der 1. Mai in vielen europäischen Ländern ein Feiertag ist, haben wir die Wartungsarbeiten um zwei Stunden nach vorne verlegt. Alle Spielserver sowie die SWTOR.com-Homepage werden während dieser Zeit offline sein. Wir gehen davon aus, dass diese Wartung nicht länger als vier Stunden gehen wird, behalten uns allerdings eine Verlängerung vor.

Für unsere neuen Spieler: Diese wöchentlichen Wartungsarbeiten erlauben es uns zum einen Verbesserungen am Spiel vorzunehmen, und zum anderen die Leistung der Server zu überprüfen, um euch auch auf Dauer ein konsistent hochwertiges Spielerlebnis zu liefern. Nach diesen Wartungsarbeiten wird es oft (aber nicht immer!) einen neuen Patch zum Herunterladen geben. Nach der Wartung könnt ihr euch einloggen um den neuesten Patch herunterzuladen. Solltet ihr euren Launcher während der Wartungsarbeiten geöffnet haben, müsst ihr ihn anschließend neu starten um den Patch herunterzuladen.

Hello everyone, we wanted to let you know that we will be performing scheduled maintenance for four hours on Tuesday, May 1st , 2012 from 12:01AM CDT (April 30th, 10:01PM PDT/1:01AM EDT/6:01AM BST/7:01AM CEST/3:01PM AEST) until 4AM CDT (2AM PDT/5AM EDT/10AM BST/11AM CEST/7PM AEST). In recognition of it being a holiday for most European countries, we have moved up maintenance time by two hours. All game servers and SWTOR.com will be offline during this period.

For our new players, this weekly maintenance is done in order to make general improvements and to check performance of the game so that we can continue to provide a consistent, quality experience. Quite often (but not always) after a maintenance period there will be a patch to download. After the maintenance, please login via the launcher to download the latest patch. If your launcher was open during the maintenance, you must close and reopen it for a fresh login.

Scheduled Maintenance

Date: Tuesday, May 1st, 2012 (See PDT timing below)

Time: 12:01AM CDT (April 30th, 10:01PM PDT/1:01AM EDT/6:01AM BST/7:01AM CEST/3:01PM AEST) until 4AM CDT (2AM PDT/5AM EDT/10AM BST/11AM CEST/7PM AEST).

It's more a matter of internal consistency in your story than divergent game play. I wouldn't recommend anyone going out of your way to meet the criteria as it's currently implemented unless that's important to you. Thanks for checking it out regardless, it shows the checks are working, just not ideal for the quest flow since it encourages doing both quests in one go.

I've filed a bug, and hopefully there's a simple solution that will get it working without any player gymnastics.

General Discussion -> Why not ask for feedback In-Game?

Posts on the forums are not the only method we use to get feedback. They're definitely a place we look at and ask for player feedback, but we have extensive metrics and telemetry and other resources we use to guide decisions about the game. All the pieces are important, but we don't just use one source to gather information. I don't know if adding in-game surveys is something we would do, but do rest assured that we get lots of information and feedback through multiple channels!

We're always watching for any potential economic exploits and correct them as a very high priority, and we absolutely do investigate and take action against anyone we've found that takes advantage of exploits like this. We actively monitor the game and have data that assists us in finding people who abuse game systems. Rest assured that players who have been found abusing any exploit will have appropriate actions taken against their accounts.

We will be deploying a patch and performing an unscheduled maintenance this Friday, April 27th, 2012. Patch notes will be made available shortly after the servers come back up.

The servers will be down for four hours on Friday, April 27th, 2012 from 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/8AM BST/9AM CEST/5PM AEST) until 6AM CDT (4AM PDT/7AM EDT/12PM BST/1PM CEST/9PM AEST). All game servers will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than four hours, but could be extended.

After the maintenance, please login via the launcher to download the latest patch. If your launcher was open during the maintenance, you must close and reopen it for a fresh login.

This is a specific, one-off character transfer process for those who were playing on US and European servers before Asia-Pacific servers were available for play. When a broader, more robust character transfer system is available, we'll make that very clear to all players.

For anyone who missed the initial window but may still be eligible, we'll have some more news on that before too long.

Hey folks, I just wanted to update this thread with the latest info. Our designers are still investigating but they're hopeful that they'll find a solution to this fairly soon. However, it may take a bit of time for the fix to be patched in. I will keep you all posted. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention.

Unfortunately there's nothing further I can do. There will always be a risk upon deleting a character name on your destination server that it might be legitimately used by someone else.

In your case, knowing your character's name (which is shared by a well-known Expanded Universe character who has been in comics, a current TV show and even the Star Wars movies) the chances of someone looking to use that name for their character is relatively high. Given that you have already seen this name is being used by another player, I hope you can understand they had the same instinct as you in naming their character, and allow them to enjoy the game.

Speaking to Customer Service today, there may have been some confusion with some representatives. We're ensuring there's better clarity.

We have a temporary issue in that Customer Service cannot currently change Legacy names, but I have confirmed that Customer Service can and will rename your character's first names if you have accidentally renamed them. It may take a short while, but it will be done.

Obviously, if you've contacted Customer Service, I'd wait for a response. You can raise a different ticket with them if you wish.

I've raised that as a potential issue with the web and server teams, but I'd suggest you send a ticket into Customer Service as well. At this point as the character transfer process has started, you will not be able to alter anything on the web page, but we'll look into the issue you described.

Anyone else who's experiencing issues, please submit a ticket to Customer Service. We have to deal with account level issues on an individual basis.

First, allow me to apologize that you encountered this situation. It certainly was not our intention to railroad anyone into any companion romance plotline. Player choice is a core part of the game experience, and anything taking that away is very concerning!

It is not intended for Players to enter a romance with Jorgan without specifically choosing to flirt with him, by picking Player options marked with [Flirt] when he first shows a romantic interest. If you never chose such options, and have not already filed a bug on this issue, please do, so that we can investigate further.

Hey again - I'm sorry about that situation. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do directly. I've spoken to Customer Service and they'll be getting in touch with you, although there is no guarantee we'll be able to resolve the situation to your satisfaction, I'm afraid.

While I'm here posting, I wanted to draw your attention to a small quirk in the renaming process, which if you don't pay attention may cause you to have issues. I've updated the original post in this thread, but here's the relevant part:

If you have more than one transferred character, regardless of which character you select, you will be prompted to rename all of your transferred characters in order from the top of the character selection screen downwards. Please take extra care to ensure you are renaming the correct character by comparing their temporary names to ensure they match.

Hey folks, just to make sure it's clear: you can receive one before the other. You should receive both by midnight CDT tonight, but it is entirely possible to receive one before the other, and in either order. Don't worry - everything is on its way!

I suspect that it may be checking to see if you've completed the quest to give you those lines, but if you haven't turned the quest in those checks would fail.

Hey there, apologies for the character transfer issue. Please contact Customer Service and they may be able to help you.

The most common reason for a character to not be transferred is because of lack of space on the destination server, or because a character was deleted after the original cut-off point. It sounds like it may be the first issue for you, but do contact CS who may be able to help.

Hey everyone on the other side of the world! The character transfer process has started for those of you who were eligible for inclusion. I wanted to give you a heads-up on what to expect during this process and a few more details.

As previously mentioned, this is the first version of our character transfer process, and it is mostly conducted manually. This means that the process will take a little while. We're proceeding carefully, monitoring the process as we transfer batches of characters. We're transferring people based on when they initially signed up for character transfer (after the page went live on April 17th), which means if you filled out the form early, the chances are you'll get transferred a little earlier, too. Please don't ask for an estimation on when you'll be transferred; as we stated at the beginning of the process, it'll take up to a week for all transfers to complete (but we're hoping less than that).

The transfer process has to occur when the servers are online, and we're doing it during office hours here in Austin. That translates to very late at night/early mornings for Australia and New Zealand (apologies to other timezones, they're the two I know sort-of-off-hand!). Here's what happens from your perspective as a player:

- If you are in-game when the transfer process starts for your character(s) then you will be disconnected from the server. You will receive an error message that's tagged as 'Error Code 6'. If this happens, it's time to take a break from the game for a while!

- If you are not in-game, you may attempt to login and find you are unable to.

- In either case, you will not be able to login to the characters you are transferring while the transfer is taking place, or create new characters on that origin server. You can create or play characters on other servers if you wish.

- The transfer process can take up to three hours, but should generally take less.

- After your transfer is complete, you will log back into the game and should find that your transferred characters are no longer listed on your character select screen. That's a good sign! You should then back out of character select and go back to server selection.

- At the bottom of the server selection screen, click the Asia Pacific tab. Select the server or servers you elected to transfer characters to; you should find them waiting for you.

- As described in my previous post, you may need to rename your characters. Please refer to that post for (hopefully) all the info you need.

- If you are still unable to login and find your transferred characters over three hours after the process intiated as described above, please contact Customer Service for assistance.

That's it! If you still have questions, please feel free to post them in this thread. I'd also ask you to review the existing FAQ as well as my previous post about renaming characters.

Hey everyone. This message only applies to those players who are transferring characters to the Asia-Pacific servers.

As you may know, by April 25, 2012, 11:59PM CDT / April 26, 2012, 4:59AM GMT, we are due to grant all active subscribers (as of April 12, 2012, 12:00PM CDT, 5:00PM GMT or April 22, 2012, 12:00PM CDT, 5:00PM GMT) the in-game Legacy Tauntaun Ram Pet via in-game mail.

As in-game mail items do not transfer as part of the current character transfer process it’s possible that some players would be transferred before they could receive their pet via in-game mail.

To ensure no-one misses out, we are briefly delaying delivery of the Tauntaun Ram Pet to those who are transferring their characters. Everyone who has transferred characters(s) to the Asia-Pacific servers should receive their Tauntaun Ram Pet via in-game mail early next week (starting April 30th). We’ll bring you more exact details closer to the time.

This does mean those of you who transferred characters will be Tauntaun-less for a few more days, but we'll ensure you all get your new best friend early next week. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.

No; your characters will be transferred and should be ready to go after that, assuming you have free slots on the destination server.

I'm afraid not. You're seeing them on your character transfer page because they were likely deleted after the cut-off point for when we took a sample of the character data. Unfortunately, that means you see them as 'available' but in fact they're not - and will fail on transfer.

You can, if you wish, contact Customer Service to ask them about restoring those characters on your original server - but you may have to wait until our final character transfer process comes online before you can transfer them to Asia-Pacific servers. Ask them nicely, they'll try and help you out.

As I've mentioned before, the character transfer system for Asia-Pacific servers is not the final system - it is in fact essentially a prototype for the final system, designed to transfer a small amount of characters (relatively speaking).

The final character transfer system is in development now and is a high priority for the development team. However, as this is a complex technical challenge with many 'moving parts' it will not be available until some time after the Asia-Pacific character transfer process is finished. When we have more details and a more accurate ETA to share, we will do so.

If an item can be modified, the base mod (hilt, barrel, armoring) is the sole determinant of base values (damage, armor).

The rating on the base mod gives you a comparative value for whether it will be higher than what you have, as it adjusts for different item types.

For example, the same armoring in heavy armor will provide more armor than it will in light armor. But a higher rating mod in either armor type will result in an improvement.

Good news Ignicity - yes, you will! Essentially after transfer you'll be presented with the same 'choose your Legacy name' dialog you saw after first completing Chapter 1 of the game. This is an issue that should have resolved itself by now. The Ilum daily and weekly missions were removed in Game Update 1.2, and we suspect that these were still in your log at the time. Since Novare Coast is brand new, wins in that Warzone were not counting towards your recently extinct daily/weekly.

They have level 50 stats, but require level 48. Crafting items often get a small required level reduction, and techblades and techstaffs have an additional reduction because of their generally limited availability.

A lot of people asking questions seem to fail to understand the purpose of these Q&As. They are for getting official developer answers about current game mechanics, not for asking about theoretical features and stuff that we MIGHT get months from now.

I have just obtained some very valuable information today that's going to come in handy going forward.

Hello everyone, we wanted to let you know that we will be performing scheduled maintenance for four hours on Tuesday, April 24th , 2012 from 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/8AM BST/9AM CEST/5PM AEST) until 6AM CDT (4AM PDT/7AM EDT/12PM BST/1PM CEST/9PM AEST). All game servers will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than four hours, but could be extended.

For our new players, this weekly maintenance is done in order to make general improvements and to check performance of the game so that we can continue to provide a consistent, quality experience. Quite often (but not always) after a maintenance period there will be a patch to download. After the maintenance, please login via the launcher to download the latest patch. If your launcher was open during the maintenance, you must close and reopen it for a fresh login.

As a reminder: these instructions only apply to the Asia-Pacific character transfer system. A more advanced character transfer system is being developed.

Hello everyone. We've heard from quite a few of you who created 'name placeholder' characters on the APAC servers (Dalborra, Gav Daragon and Master Dar'Nala) upon their launch, and are now wondering if you should delete those placeholder characters before the transfer process begins. This is partially covered in our FAQ but I wanted to go into more detail and hopefully clarify for you.

This is a little tricky so please read carefully, and I'll try to answer follow-up questions in this thread as they occur. (Apologies in advance if due to timezone differences or the weekend I'm not super-prompt.) If you have any issues with the character transfer process, please contact Customer Service.

Here's the short version: if you have sufficient character slots free on your destination server, you can transfer your characters and then delete your placeholder characters - therefore ensuring you retain your character name after transfer.

Let's get more detailed. First, you need to be aware of the restrictions on character slots. There will always only be eight character slots available on any single target server for you to transfer characters to, and transferred characters will not 'overwrite' characters with the same name. That's important because if you're transferring characters to 'replace' a placeholder character, you may find that you don't have enough free slots to transfer to.

For example: you have six characters that you wish to transfer to the Dalborra server, on which you have previously created six placeholder characters with the same names as your incoming transferred characters. As those six characters do not 'overwrite' the existing placeholder characters, you will be unable to move all six characters and will actually only be able to move two.

This essentially means that if you are trying to transfer more than four characters to 'replace' a placeholder character, you will not be able to transfer all of them to a single server. You will need to delete some characters on the destination server to make room for incoming transferred characters. This does mean that there's a chance another character will be created on that server with that name in the interim.

However, if you do have free slots, you can transfer characters to your destination server, delete your placeholder characters, then rename your transferred characters. This process would happen as follows:

- After your transfer is complete, you will be notified via email.

- You will login to the game and navigate to the new region in the server select screen.

- You will select your chosen destination server.

- On the character select screen you will see any of your placeholder characters, and also your transferred characters. (Your transferred characters will have randomly generated names; you should be able to recognize them visually, though!)

- You may delete any or all of your placeholder characters.

- After a placeholder character is deleted, click their 'replacement' character and then click 'Play'. You will be prompted to rename them. Rename them to your previous 'placeholder' name. (You will actually not login to the game after this point, but will remain on the character select screen and see your renamed character.)

- Your character will be renamed and ready to play.

- After you have renamed your first transferred character, you will be prompted to rename every other character that has been transferred. If you have not deleted your other placeholder characters at this point, click the 'X' to cancel the rename process.

In summary, if you are attempting to transfer more than four characters to a single server with 'name placeholder' characters, then you may need to delete some placeholder characters to make room for all your characters that are being transferred. However if you have space (or choose to transfer characters to differing servers) you should be able to use your 'name placeholders' to ensure you keep your transferred characters' names.

Hopefully this makes the process a little clearer. Again, as a reminder, this is not a description of any final character transfer process - just what will be occurring specifically for the Asia-Pacific character transfer process.

This is a bug that we're investigating. As theorized above, you can work around this by inserting low level mods. You only need the armoring. The results of RE will be unaffected - I was able to learn the recipe from the specific item mentioned here with nothing but a level 10 green armoring in the shell.

While you can follow the rule of "gear that is new in 1.2 or later has the set bonus on the mods," there are also a couple ways to tell if a set bonus will transfer by looking at an item you have:

1. Open the modification window for the item, then mouseover the Armoring. If the tooltip for the Armoring lists a set bonus, then it is the source of the bonus.

2. If the item is equipped, check the set bonus criteria in the item tooltip. Instead of seeing something like "War Hero Force-Master's Boots" you will see "War Hero Force-Master's Boots (Armoring)." The (Armoring) indicates that the set bonus is coming from the mod, not the gear.

Everyone - I'd like to ask you, before posting in this thread, to please read my previous replies, especially this one.

To re-iterate: this is not the final character transfer process. We understand people's desires for other features regarding character transfer and we're working to bring as many of them to you as possible. However, complaining about the current process is ultimately futile - it is not changing.

For those of you who reside in the Asia-Pacific area outside of the initially stated four countries, after the initial character transfer process is complete we'll talk more about what can be done for you. We are not ignoring your feedback, but we must ask for your patience while we finish up the first stage of our long-term plans for character transfers.

Hey all, thank you for reports into this issue. We escalated this to the development team and after investigation, got confirmation that this was a bug.

It's being worked on now and a fix should be rolled out in a future patch. In the meantime, it'll be added to our known issues list.

That was precisely the point of my post: 900 expertise is worth a lot. The difference of 900 expertise in PvP is a lot more pronounced than additional 200 health from higher endurance on Centurion gear.

Recruit is on par, if not better than Centurion gear when it comes to PvP due to the importance of expertise post 1.2. (It replaced Centurion gear). Yes, you're missing out on a bunch of health and PvE stats and a set bonus, but the difference in expertise that affects survivability, healing and damage makes up for it.

Tionese, Centurion and Champion are identical to 1.1.5 now (a bug related to the stats on that gear changing was fixed in the last patch).

Hey guys,

A few additional notes on this topic, fresh from a meeting with Gabe and the PvP team.

(a) Expertise difference between combatants is the single most important factor in time to kill in PvP.

Having zero or little expertise on your gear (e.g. pure PvE gear) is the primary reason for people to experience a sped-up time to death in Game Update 1.2. While it was quite viable pre-1.2 to bring your Rakata or Columi gear without any added expertise into PvP, the increased focus on expertise in the PvP track of gear has made it much harder to compete with that equipment compared to even the entry level Recruit set.

Consequently, the single most effective step you can take to decrease time to death (i.e. increase time to kill of your opponent) is to gear for increased expertise. Coming from PvE, obtaining at least some pieces of Recruit gear is definitely recommended.

We're aware that this fact is not adequately communicated in the game and that the cost of recruit gear is perceived as too prohibitive by some of you. We're in the process of working on a solution for these issues at the moment.

TL;DR: Expertise is a lot more valuable than any other stat in PvP. Recruit gear easily beats Columi for PvP.

(b) In response to your feedback, we've re-tested all classes to ensure they are falling within our desired DPS targets and found one issue with Demo Round / Heatseeker Missile which was getting increased DPS, not just from other people's stacks but also from an unwanted interaction with other skills. That issue was corrected in the 1.2.0c patch this week.

(c) There has been some level of inflation in the overall DPS budget of the game as result of Legacy benefits and other changes. Over time, these add up and as it stands, we have established that the global burst potential across the game is slightly higher than we are targeting. We will likely take some minor to moderate action about this in the near future by adjustments to the magnitude and duration of offensive relics (longer duration, reduced magnitude, identical power amortized over time).

(d) When faced with groups of enemies, stacking debuffs can result a real TTK issue. We are in process of revamping the debuff system in the game to reduce the impact of multi player debuff stacking on TTK.

Hi everyone, we had recently discovered an issue that allowed these items to be used in ways detrimental to other player's gameplay and have taken the temporary step of removing them from availability. We are in process of determining further steps and will likely alter their functionality before putting them back in or replace them with a different but still cool reward. In the meantime, their value has been changed so that they can be sold back to the vendor at no loss. We apologize for any confusion.

Hey all, I've been catching up on this thread and wanted to point out a few things.

If you have any kind of issue with the form itself or questions about why something doesn't appear to be working, please contact Customer Service directly via this page. I'm afraid we cannot address individual queries via the Forums. Every request has to be looked at individually and often your account details will have to be referenced; that has to be done by Customer Service. You can also post in the Customer Service Forums.

Requesting a character transfer in this thread will not work. If you are currently eligible for a transfer then you will need to login to your account and use the form. If you have issues with the form, please contact Customer Service.

Right now the initial transfer process is available for eligible countries only. However, we're looking at possible 'edge cases' (like you described) and we'll have more information on that after the initial transfers are completed.

Regarding the transfer process generally. It's important to realize this is not the final character transfer process. This is an early and somewhat inelegant method of allowing those players who opted to play the game before the official launch date in their country to move their characters onto servers with better local latency. Our 'final' character transfer process is currently in development.

Lastly, I know many have asked about 'placeholder' characters on the transfer servers. I'm gathering more details and double-checking everything, and will update you further with more details about that soon.

 

PvP -> What is wrong with the new Warzone rewards? What can be done to fix the problem?

PvP
  • Increased rewards for players on the losing side of Warzone matches.
  • Players will now receive rewards for Warzones if they have earned at least one medal.

I wanted to pop in and say two things:

First, I appreciate threads like this, and good job for putting it together.

Second, please be careful using training dummies for DPS tests and comparisons. As contrary to our intentions as it is, training dummies are not as of yet the fully reliable DPS testing resource we want them to be. This is because they cannot dodge or deflect attacks at the moment.

For Operatives, that fact doesn't have much of an impact. However, if you're going to look at Marauder and Sentinel DPS numbers and go "wow, we're nowhere near that," keep in mind that they gain a significant benefit from attacking a target that cannot defend due to their dual wield mechanic. Targets with a 0% defense chance will take significantly more offhand strikes from dual wielders than is typical.

On the subject of training dummy dodge and deflect, we have a fix for it that will show up in a weekly patch in the near future (don't know when off the top of my head). So, keep up the cool thread, but keep a level head about dual wielders on training dummies.

This, to put it nicely, a kind of self-centred suggestion. That said, it's an easy conclusion to come to when you're the well-informed, knowledge-gathering, systems-minded forum-going type of player. But, believe it or not, that's the minority of any gaming audience. I know it's hard to believe when you look around and all you see is similar knowledge-gathering and knowledge-sharing forum-goers, but that's still the minority.

Most players have their accessibility and understanding of the game damaged when they get a free respec. For most players, this is a jarring and unwelcome experience. We don't want to have to give out respecs at all, which is why it is only limited to when it's technically essential to making your character not break. I know that's not the answer you want to hear, but it's still the answer.

Wir werden am kommenden Donnerstag, den 19. April 2012, eine unplanmäßig Wartung vornehmen um einen neuen Patch aufzuspielen. Die Patch Notes werden unmittelbar nach Ende der Wartungsarbeiten zur Verfügung gestellt.

Die Server werden am 19. April für vier Stunden offline sein, und zwar von 9 Uhr MESZ bis um 13 Uhr MESZ. Alle Spielserver werden während dieser Zeit offline sein. Wir gehen davon aus, dass die Arbeiten nicht länger als vier Stunden gehen werden, behalten uns allerdings eine Verlängerung vor.

Nach dem Ende der Wartungsarbeiten müsst ihr den neuen Patch herunterladen. Sollte euer Launcher während der Arbeiten geöffnet gewesen sein, müsst ihr ihn neustarten um den Patch herunterzuladen.

We will be deploying a patch and performing an unscheduled maintenance this Thursday, April 19th, 2012. Patch notes will be made available shortly after the servers come back up.

The servers will be down for four hours on Thursday, April 19th, 2012 from 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/8AM BST/9AM CEST/5PM AEST) until 6AM CDT (4AM PDT/7AM EDT/12PM BST/1PM CEST/9PM AEST). All game servers will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than four hours, but could be extended.

After the maintenance, please login via the launcher to download the latest patch. If your launcher was open during the maintenance, you must close and reopen it for a fresh login.

Maintenance

Date: Thursday, April 19th, 2012

Time: 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/8AM BST/9AM CEST/5PM AEST) until 6AM CDT (4AM PDT/7AM EDT/12PM BST/1PM CEST/9PM AEST).

There's a couple of things possibly up with that.
All of the emails have now been sent. However, if you didn't receive an email, you may still be eligible for transfer. First of all, it's possible the email is in a Spam folder or similar, so please check that. Secondly, as this email is defined as a Marketing email, you may be opted 'out' to receive those kinds of emails in your account preferences. If so, you wouldn't have been sent the email.

Regardless, anyone who feels they should be eligible should login to their account and check the account transfer page. If they are currently eligible, that page (the one we've all been talking about) will be available to them.

Good morning from Austin, everyone. We've got good news and not-so-good news.

The good news is the web and database teams have been working closely together to figure out the issues we've seen overnight, and they've been successful. Your reports have helped them run down and diagnose the key issue that was affecting this process, and they are now working on resolving this.

The not-so-good news is that between some fast development, testing and deployment, the solution won't be online until a little later today (Austin time). When that happens the form should start working for all.

For now, there's no more need to give us your server or character details. Thank you to everyone who did so. We'll give you an update later on today as the solution is rolled out. Once again, apologies for the delay and inconvenience, but we're working hard to resolve the situation.

A solution is unlikely to be online in the next few hours, but you'll still be included in the transfer process. We will work to ensure everyone who wants to be included is handled correctly.

The short answer is, the highest Legacy level will apply. Here's the relevant section of the FAQ - the example at the end may help:

For example, a player has three characters from different North American or European servers that they want to transfer to one of the Asia Pacific Servers. The first character has a Legacy Level of 5, the second is from a different server and has Legacy Level 7, and the third is from another server and has Legacy level 12. The highest Legacy Level here is Level 12. If you already have a Legacy Level greater than 12 on an Asia Pacific server, it will remain unchanged. If that’s not the case, when all of these characters are transferred to the new Asia Pacific server, the Legacy Level will be set to Legacy Level 12 which matches the highest Legacy Level achieved by one of your characters.

Hey everyone, we've had some teething problems with this page earlier today but we're now seeing transfers being accepted within the system.

For those of you having issues, we apologize and we're working to get you fixed as soon as possible. We'd like to get some information from those of you with issues to help diagnose and fix things, but before that, please ensure you've cleared your browser cache, removed cookies, and tried logging into the site and checking the page on a different browser. If after those steps you're still experiencing problems, then please post in this thread with the following information:

- The originating server which you want to transfer a character from
- The name of a character on that server
- Your specific issues with the form - buttons not available, dropdowns not working, etc

Please note - we're only asking for this information to help us diagnose the issue. You will still be able to transfer other characters from other servers via this form when we resolve the issues we're seeing.

We haven't 'run out' of colors, but generally we'll be staying closer to the 'classic' colors as seen in the movies - generally meaning green, red, blue, purple, orange/yellow etc.

Variations will exist, particularly in hue and core colors, and we will have unusual outliers such as the white lightsaber crystal that was available for a period of time before Game Update 1.2.

Hey everyone, we realize there’s some confusion over this so I just wanted to clarify a little.

The two color crystals being discussed are separate items and are subtly different in color. They are both essentially green, but as we are attempting to keep close to the ‘classic Star Wars’ lightsaber/blaster colors in The Old Republic, that was a deliberate choice by the design team.

As there’s been some debate over the different colors, I had some screenshots created that show off the two different crystals in use in a lightsaber. You can see the ‘SE Black Green Color Crystal’ here. (This is the crystal awarded to those who purchase Razer hardware.) You can see the ‘Advanced Black Green Hawkeye Crystal’ here. (This is the crystal available as part of the Rakghoul Plague event.) For comparison, you can see both of them in use by a dual wielding Jedi Sentinel here.

For those who really want detail, I checked the RGB values of both crystals while in use. The ‘SE Black Green Color Crystal’ has RGB values of 217/255/9 at my sample point. The ‘Advanced Black Green Hawkeye Crystal’ has RGB values of 188/255/17 at my sample point (as close as I could to the previous sample point).

While we understand some concerns that the two crystals are similar in color, we feel they’re distinct enough to be valid choices for any player. There are no current plans to alter either of the crystal colors in-game, however we're listening to your feedback on the issue and may potentially make changes in the future.

As a reminder, the Advanced Black Green Hawkeye Crystal is currently only available in-game as part of the Rakghoul Plague event, by exchanging Rakghoul DNA samples with the event vendor.

Hey everyone - thanks for reporting the sound issues you've seen since 1.2. I can confirm that fixes for many of these issues (including the loud sound on the Fleet, volume issues in Space Combat, and more) are in the works right now and will be deployed as soon as they're ready. Please note that not all issues may be addressed in the same update, but we've seen your reports and have fixes coming!

The "you get a free respec" system is automated. It happens when skill tree structure changes. We don't do it by hand. If Shadows got a free respec, then there's a bug in the system and we'll investigate. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hey folks,

Some follow up news from observations of play and feedback over the weekend. In the next couple of days we will be deploying a small patch that will address the following issues:
  • As discussed, minimum medals to gain rewards will go from 3 to 1 to better reward those who are backfilled.
  • Warzones will once again be shutting down when population imbalance is detected. This was an unfortunate bug where a feature of Ranked Warzones (in full team play it is not desirable to let one team end the game prematurely by quitting out) was incorrectly implemented globally.
  • Completion of Warzones will gain a large increase in the percentage of rewards it represents, so while scoring is still the primary driver, you will cease to see games that give no rewards if players have a minimum of 1 medal earned.
  • We are extending the time we wait for a full team of eight to better make sure Warzones pop with complete teams.

A huge thank you to everyone who played this weekend and provided valuable feedback and analysis.

Please note that switching areas, etc. will reset the timer on the plague's current phase. So if you keep travelling, you ward off the progress of the plague.

Not really true. The magenta crystal was found many weeks after it was put into the game the first time. There's still a few untold secrets in the game too, but those are for you to find, not us to mention

The Tauntaun can already be obtained in-game (and could be obtained on PTS for the last 4 weeks before that), although nobody managed to find it.

Some of you actually had ideas that are pretty close to the truth and I've seen at least one comment out there on the internet that indicates the tauntaun was found, but not captured.

PvP -> On Warzone Scoring and Rewards

Hey folks,

There's been a lot of discussion about the changes to the Warzone rewards system in Game Update 1.2 and the type of play style that it encourages. I wanted to help out a bit and point out a major change not all players may have noticed and share some of our plans.

First of all, rest assured we are keeping a close watch on the results of our reward changes to Warzones in 1.2 and we will continue to pull constant metrics to make sure they are going in the right direction as players get used to the new rules.

To refresh everyone's memories, one of the most important aspects of the new changes is that your team's performance inside the Warzone has a direct impact on a portion of the rewards you are given at the end of the Warzone. Even if your team is losing, the closer you can make the game the better your rewards will be - so don't give up hope! Giving up and letting the other team 'win faster' is now the worst possible route you can take to rewards.

Secondly, one of the things we have already identified to fix is to reduce the minimum amount of medals a player must receive to gain any reward at all. Currently that value is three (3), and we are going to reduce that to only needing one (1) medal to gain rewards. This should make sure we cover that all important backfill player while still protecting against the freeloaders.

As we move forward, we will continue to meet and discuss other possible changes based on the feedback here on the Forums as well as the data coming in from the live servers. As always, we appreciate your comments and want to hear from you.

No - as Greg's post mentions - everyone will have until April 22nd at noon CDT (5:00pm GMT) to gain either Legacy Level 6 or a level 50 character.

Als erstes müsst ihr einen Charakter durch Kapitel 1 gebracht haben, um das Vermächtnis-System freizuschalten. Beispiele, wie ihr Vermächtnis-Stufe 6 erreichen könnt:
  • Zwei Charaktere mit Stufe 45 und 42
  • Drei Charaktere mit den Stufen 45, 32 und 32
  • A Eine Gruppe von Charakteren mit den Stufen 35, 33, 31, 29 und 20
  • Ein einzelner Stufe 50 Charakter, der eine Zeit am Endgame teilgenommen hat

Denkt daran, das sind nur Beispiele – es steht euch frei, wie ihr Vermächtnis-Stufe 6 erreichen wollt.

Wir haben eine weitere, bedeutende Nachricht: Alle haben bis zum 22. April 18.00 Uhr MESZ Zeit einen Stufe 50 Charakter oder Vermächtnis-Stufe 6 zu erspielen um die 30 Tage Spielzeit zu erhalten. (die 30 Tage Spielzeit werden euren Accounts am 26. April 6.59 Uhr gutgeschrieben) Spieler haben jetzt viele Optionen und außerdem mehr Zeit um zu versuchen diese Ziele zu erreichen.

Hello everyone! At BioWare we're always listening to our fans and we've heard our community's comments around players with Level 50 characters being the only group awarded 30 days of play time. We appreciate the feedback and are pleased to announce that we are expanding our Legacy Promotion, also awarding 30 days of play time at no charge to players that have reached Legacy Level 6 (who may not have a 50th level character).

We just released the innovative Legacy System as part of Game Update 1.2, and felt that looking at Legacy point progression across all of your characters was a great way to reward our most avid players. This means that any of the experience you earn with any of your characters brings you closer to the goal of Legacy Level 6. The choice of how to get to Legacy Level 6 is yours.

First, you need to have passed Chapter 1 to unlock your legacy. Examples of how to get to Legacy Level 6 include:
  • A pair of characters Level 45 and 42
  • A trio of characters of Levels 45, 32 and 32
  • A bunch of characters Levels 35, 33, 31, 29 and 20
  • A single 50th level character that has enjoyed the endgame for a brief time
Remember these are just examples – you’re free to choose how to earn your Legacy experience to gain Legacy Level 6.

We've also got another significant piece of good news: everyone will have until April 22nd at noon CDT (5:00pm GMT - click here for a time zone converter) to have a Level 50 character or Legacy Level 6 on their account to get 30 days of game time on us. (Your 30 days of game time will be applied to your account on April 25th by 11:59pm CDT.) Players will now have multiple options, as well as more time, to try and reach these goals.

As always, we appreciate your feedback and will do our best to surprise and delight our customers.

Wir wollten euch davon in Kenntnis setzen, dass die geplanten Wartungsarbeiten am Dienstag den 17. April 2012 von 9.00 Uhr MEZ bis 14.00 Uhr MEZ, fünf Stunden dauern werden. Alle Server werden in dieser Zeit nicht erreichbar sein. Wir erwarten, dass diese Wartungsarbeiten nicht länger als fünf Stunden dauern, es kann aber zu Verzögerungen kommen.

Für unsere neuen Spieler:

Diese wöchentlichen Wartungsarbeiten erlauben es uns zum einen Verbesserungen am Spiel vorzunehmen, und zum anderen die Leistung der Server zu überprüfen, um euch auch auf Dauer ein konsistent hochwertiges Spielerlebnis zu liefern. Nach diesen Wartungsarbeiten wird es oft (aber nicht immer!) einen neuen Patch zum Herunterladen geben; wir würden euch daher empfehlen nach Wartungsarbeiten immer euren Launcher zu starten.

Weiterhin führen wir Wartungsarbeiten an SWTOR.com durch um das neue Design aufzuspielen. Die Webseite wird für 10 Stunden nicht erreichbar sein, von 8.00 Uhr bis 18.00 Uhr MESZ. Sobald die Seite zurück ist, wird das neue Design sichtbar sein.

Hello everyone!

We will be bringing down servers for five hours on Tuesday, April 17th, 2012 from 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/8AM BST/9AM CEST/5PM AEST) until 7AM CDT (5AM PDT/8AM EDT/1PM BST/2PM CEST/10PM AEST). All game servers will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than five hours, but could be extended.

For our new players, this weekly maintenance is done in order to make general improvements and to check performance of the game so that we can continue to provide a consistent, quality experience. Quite often (but not always) after a maintenance period there will be a patch to download. After the maintenance, please login via the launcher to download the latest patch. If your launcher was open during the maintenance, you must close and reopen it for a fresh login.

In addition to this, we will be performing maintenance on SWTOR.com for its new redesign. The website will be unavailable for ten hours from 1AM CDT (April 16th, 11PM PDT/2AM EDT/7AM BST/8AM CEST/4PM AEST) until 11AM CDT (9AM PDT/12PM EDT/5PM BST/6PM CEST/April 18th,2AM AEST). Once the site comes back up, the new redesign will be unveiled.

Es ist Freitag Abend, 21:00 Uhr ( bei uns) und das Büro ist komplett besetzt. Marcel z.B. hat seit 5 Stunden Feierabend. Wir arbeiten alle mit Hochdruck an den Problemen und versuchen unser Möglichstes um euch zu informieren, die Server zum Laufen zu bringen, oder was eben so unsere Aufgabe ist.

Ich denke nicht, dass hier jemand das Ziel - die Server online bringen - aus den Augen verliert, keine Sorge. Aber wie gesagt: Wir müssen auf Rückmeldung der Technik warten und solange wir die nicht haben, können wir entweder schweigen, oder uns mit euch unterhalten. Offen gesagt finde ich persönlich unseren Weg grade gut, denn wenn wir gar nichts posten würden (oder alle 2 Minuten nur "Noch nichts Neues") wäre das sicher weniger schön.

Aus aktuellem Anlass noch eine Warnung: Nicht Ursula nehmen, die holt sich eine Fußbank, steigt drauf und schlägt dir eiskalt auf die KNiescheibe. Steven kannst du mitnehmen, der braucht aber mal ne neue Frisur und vll nen Schalldämpfer, der ist etwas laut. Mathias ist recht ruhig, hat aber einen faible für Äxte, das kann ein Problem werden... Basti könnte klappen, der hat aber das größe Manko: Er ist aus Gelsenkirchen.

UPDATE: 10:53AM CDT

During last night's maintenance, some areas of the game were reverted to pre-Game Update 1.2 status. Some areas were 'missing' and characters that were in those areas would be unavailable. We took the live servers offline at approx 9:30AM CDT (Austin time).

Our server and deployment teams are now working to rebuild assets for the live servers, but this is unfortunately not a quick process. We currently estimate that our downtime could be up to eight hours, but that time may be extended.

We are expecting the servers to be available again at 6:00PM CDT (April 14th, 12:00AM BST, 1:00AM CEST, 9:00AM AEST). We'll update you with information in this thread when we have it.

We sincerely apologize for the unexpected downtime today. We’ll update you with more details later.

Im Ernst, glaubt mir ich verstehe, dass hier viele nun verärgert sind. Ich kann euch versichern, dass wir die Server nicht mit Absicht um diese Zeit runterfahren und wir hatten auch einen anderen Plan mit dem Patch heute Mittag, als damit mehr kaputt zu machen.

Leider spielt die Technik manchmal nicht so wie wir es gerne hätten und auch wenn ich noch nicht sagen kann wer oder was hier das Problem ist, kann ich doch versprechen, dass hier alle Hände in der Technik stecken, um die Server wieder zum laufen zu bringen. (Daran hab ich auch starkes, persönliches Interesse! Die neue Operation wartet doch auf mich -.- )

Wie gesagt, sobald wir eine ETA haben oder sowas, werdet ihr von uns lesen.

Wir sind deutlich mehr, wobei man mich im Forum eher selten sieht, aber Marcel Hatam, Steven Link, Bastian Thun, Mathias Pletschacher und Ursula Brand sollten bekannt sein.

Was genau passiert ist (oder wie) kann ich euch leider noch nicht sagen, da die Technik grade andere Dinge zu tun hat als mir einen Bericht zu geben. Sollten wir irgendwelche News haben, werden wir es euch aber wissen lassen.

If it's what I think it is, there's a known issue that healing flytext overlaps, so when all three heals go off at once, you just see one (even though there are two more behind it). You can confirm this by checking how much health you actually gain by comparing your current health before and after using Death Field.

That is correct. However, I'll repeat, the reduction in Grav Round damage was made to address how much damage Grav Round contributes to your total rotation - not to address how many times you press the Grav Round button. Players have run off with the idea that we're trying to eliminate Grav Round spamming, which is not the case. My goal has been to eliminate how effective Grav Round spamming is if it's all you do.

An effective Gunnery rotation still utilizes Grav Round as both a "build up" ability and a "resource dump" ability. That hasn't changed, nor was it my goal to change that. What has changed is that competitive DPS now comes from utilizing all of your key rotational abilities instead of leaning so very heavily on just Grav Round. I hope that's more clear now.

On April 11th, an early version of Game Update 1.2 was deployed early by mistake. During a brief window of time players logging into the game may have downloaded the patch and found they were unable to log in. We corrected this unintentional change as soon as possible.

After correcting the issue, players who downloaded the early patch and wished to continue playing before Game Update 1.2’s live deployment were required to re-download the game client, or re-install from retail DVDs.

We sincerely apologize to those players inconvenienced by this issue. We understand your play time is valuable and we are making changes to ensure this does not happen again.

In addition, we have now identified all players who were affected by this error, and as compensation an extra three days of game time will be added to their current subscriptions. These three days will be credited to affected accounts by Tuesday, April 17th.

Free respecs are only given when the structure of the skill tree changes, such that if you were to log in and NOT receive a free respec, your character would be broken.

For example, if you used to have 3/3 in a skill box, and we changed that skill so that it now required another skill that you didn't have, or we changed it so that it only had 2 points and you now had 3/2, you'd have a broken character. And that would be bad.

We don't give out free respecs based on an arbitrary judgement call as to how many changes were made; we give them out so your characters will continue to work. Hope that makes sense.

For clarity, the purpose of the change was to address the issue that Grav Round, on its own, was responsible for too much of your overall DPS. In other words, using totally made up numbers, if all you did was mindlessly spam Grav Round, you could still achieve something like 85% (again, totally made up) of your total damage dealing potential.

Not only was it bad, it wasn't fun (for the target or the caster). When things are bad, not fun, and yet they're still effective, they become high profile candidates for tweaking.

What we did was lower Grav Round's damage and increase Demo Round's damage. I don't know what the net result is off the top of my head, but we feel it's much, much closer to a "rebalance" than an outright "nerf."

And in case you're worried, if it turns out to be more of a nerf than a rebalance (which we don't want to be the case), then we'll fix it. But even then that'll probably be in ways that don't directly affect the damage dealt by Grav Round.

Unless an item clearly states 'Research Available', there is no chance for learning anything from it through reverse engineering.

Emails should be completely sent by tomorrow.

Essentially, anyone who has game time left on their account, is able to login (ie, is not banned) and is not playing the game as part of a Friend's Trial will be eligible for the game time.

DFA's total damage was not changed in patch 1.2, but it ticks more frequently and deals less damage per tick. The overall damage and DPS dealt by DFA has not changed.

The only balance adjustments made to DFA are the ones you see in the patch notes (starts faster and has a smaller radius).

Damage from Death From Above should not be any different in this patch. All that was adjusted was the radius of the effect. Damage is applied faster now (every .5 second instead of every second) but the overall damage is the same.

Hey everyone, just a clarification - when you receive your Inheritance Construction Kit, you should mail it to the character in your Legacy that you'd like to give the weapon to. The in-game mail that accompanies the Construction Kit contains instructions. The character you mail it to can then redeem the Kit on Dromund Kaas or Coruscant to receive the item! You should not redeem the Kit on your main character, as you'll receive an item for that character's class.

Hello everyone - if you can obtain a schematic through reverse engineering, you'll see a tooltip that indicates that research is available. If you see "No Research Available" on the tooltip, reverse engineering that item won't grant a schematic. Hope this clears things up a little!

It's a start, but not done, and a little late.
While you can't resize the windows yet (and that is feedback I'll pass to the team!), you can indeed move them around. Open the UI Editor and check "Enable Movable Secondary Window."

We completely understand your frustration - we're frustrated too. We were given incorrect information and we relayed that to you in error. All we can do right now is apologize.

I want to be clear that no-one intentionally lied; the messaging was a mistake, but one that compounded our earlier mistake, and that's unacceptable.

If you haven't seen, I have updated our original thread with revised instructions. As you probably realize, your options at this point are to either let the client complete a full download, or re-install from physical DVDs. Re-installing should reduce your download size considerably.

There are still discussions ongoing about this issue, and I'll update you when I have more to share.

Good morning everyone. After yesterday's patch deployment issue, we issued information about re-patching in good faith, specifically this statement:

1. If you are currently re-downloading the client, and are in initial "downloading" phase (around 11GB), you can exit the launcher to interrupt this download and play 1.2 tomorrow without having to complete it. If you reach any "installing" phase, you will need to complete the re-download.
Sadly, it now appears that information was incorrect.

At this time, we understand that anyone who cancelled the patching process as described above will need to complete a full re-download of the game client, or re-install the game and then re-patch. There are two options available to you:
  1. Allow the launcher to re-download the full game client and patch to Game Update 1.2
  2. If you have access to physical install DVDs from a retail box, uninstall your game client and re-install the game, then patch to Game Update 1.2
Both of these options will allow you to play Game Update 1.2.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and the confusion caused by this messaging.

As the class designer, I personally run my own DPS, healing, and tanking tests for all classes. We have testers that run all kinds of PVP and Flashpoint/Ops content for a wide range of tests (and do a great job), but the testing that I refer to, validate, and post about in this thread is conducted by myself and the rest of the combat team.

I understand your frustration, but that's just not the case.

While I can't give you a window into the studio other than my word, the decision to cut this feature was made very recently. There was no deliberate delay and we brought you the news as soon as it was known. It was a very difficult decision for the development team, and not one that was taken lightly. The PvP team is hard at work on reinstating Ranked Warzones right now.

I should have separated my thoughts more clearly. Maybe I can clear up some of the confusion.

For those testing their DPS against training dummies, be aware that, depending on your spec and gear, right now there is an issue that will cause training dummies to not be the accurate depiction of DPS that we want them to be. We're working on that.

For those testing their DPS in the new Ops, the simple response is that our tests show higher numbers. We aren't seeing a shortage in Sniper/Gunslinger DPS. To the contrary, we're seeing them hit our targets.

Lastly, in doing these tests, we exposed an issue in how we value weapon damage and defense, the result of which would increase weapon damage globally by a very small amount. When we change our assumptions, we want to apply the result to the live game to keep the many, many varieties of character builds all playing "with the same rules," with an eye on not upsetting balance too much. To put this into words relevant to this thread, Snipers and Gunslingers will see a small increase to weapon damage in a patch some undetermined time after 1.2, which in additional tests, caused them to hit and sometimes exceed our targets by a margin we're perfectly comfortable with.

To those asking about the issue with alacrity causing ticks of channeled attacks to drop, we're looking into it. Thanks very much for bringing that to our attention.

No, as a precaution to ensure that we did not get any more players into a state where they had to re-patch, we removed the patch data from the CDN.

If we'd allowed it to stay there, there was a possibility more people would have been affected.

While this did mean that those downloading would temporarily be slowed down, it prevented the issue from affecting more players.

That's correct, and we're very sorry that this occurred. Again, we apologize to everyone affected.

As the window of time for this issue was brief, the number of players affected was small, in relative terms. This was a simple human mistake, but we're taking steps to ensure an error like this does not occur again.

Regarding download speeds, to ensure that no-one was given the wrong patch data via our content delivery network by accident (something that's out of our control), we decided to remove all patch data temporarily. This meant for a period of time anyone who was patching was downloading from a single server. This was not a deliberate 'throttling' of download speeds, but it would have affected you. If you get to an install phase while re-downloading the full client, you'll just need to let your re-download complete. Tomorrow, you'll only need to download the 1.2 patch (around 1 GB).

Everyone, we do apologize for the inconvenience if you have been affected by this issue.

I wanted to update to emphasize that, if you want to cancel a re-download of of the client, you must do so in the first downloading phase (the 11GB phase). If the patcher reaches an "installing" phase, you will need to complete the redownload and patch tomorrow. If you stop the download during this downloading phase, you will be able to play 1.2 tomorrow when it is deployed.

More information based on questions we're seeing frequently:

1. If you are currently re-downloading the client, and are in the "downloading" phase (not the "installing" phase), you can exit the launcher to interrupt this download and play 1.2 tomorrow without having to complete it.

2. It is fine to log in and play normally right now - the window in which players could be affected was brief.

3. If you started or completed the download and want to play today, you can re-install from your physical discs (but you will need to patch up to 1.1.5, the most recent live version).

4. If you re-download the client today, you will not have to re-download the full client tomorrow.

Yes, if you complete a client re-download after downloaded the patch earlier today, you will be able to play today. If you do not complete it (cancel while it is still downloading), you would not need to download the 1.2 patch tomorrow when it is deployed.

Yes - logging in now is fine. We corrected the issue very quickly, and players who log in now will be unaffected.

Some patch-related changes were mistakenly deployed early. Luckily, these changes only affected players for a very brief (less than 15-minute) window. We corrected this unintentional change very quickly.

Here’s how it affects you:

If you started or completed the patch download, you have two options:
  • If you want to continue playing today, you will need to restart your client and re-download the client
  • If you want to wait until tomorrow and play when 1.2 is deployed to the servers, you can close your client and restart it tomorrow after the patch is deployed (approximately 8AM CDT).

Operation lockouts reset on Tuesday mornings, regardless of maintenance. I've double checked with the team, and they confirmed that lockouts will not reset tonight during maintenance.

This means that anyone who has already cleared Karagga's Palace or Eternity Vault this week will not be able to run them again until their lockouts reset on Tuesday, however everyone should be able to attempt the new Operation: Explosive Conflict immediately after the patch.

I believe there are a couple of culprits contributing to the subpar DPS being reported in this thread.

First, for those unaware, we've identified that training dummies cannot dodge or deflect attacks, which is an issue we're working on a solution for. In the mean time however, this means Accuracy Rating is effectively not contributing to your DPS when attacking a training dummy. As this is a very common stat on Sniper and Gunslinger gear, it's likely that tests performed against training dummies will show lower DPS than other classes that rely less on Accuracy.

Additionally, we've adjusted some of our assumptions regarding how weapon damage interacts with enemy chances to dodge and deflect. In an as-of-yet-undetermined patch after 1.2, you'll see a small but noticeable damage increase to a few key attacks for Snipers and Gunslingers.

Lastly, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that Snipers and Gunslingers are a difficult class to play. As "pure DPS" classes (like the Marauder and Sentinel), Snipers and Gunslingers require a good deal of skill to wield properly, and finding and executing a proper rotation is key to ideal resource management and damage output.

In summary, our internal tests don't support these claims, but some of that is due in part to the "real world conditions" in which these tests are conducted. Our findings are and continue to be that Snipers and Gunslingers, in the right hands, played in a real world setting are actually performing extremely well. These classes are on and beyond our targets, extremely similar in performance to Marauders and Sentinels. And for clarity, those "targets" I'm mentioning are the kill times and DPS that we aim all damage dealing specs in the game to meet (and it's the same target values for all specs).

Black Hole Commendations are often added to places with appropriate rate-limited content, which is a bit different than some of the previous high level commendations.

A few other notes that escaped the initial post:

Augments stay at their current effective level (49) and we are not planning to add a new tier of augments in the near future.

Augments also had their stats adjusted/split (as discussed in other threads) to account for their wider availability in the system. The overall effect of the change is a net increase in survival time for players due to increased health from endurance.

There are also a large number of changes (and fixes) to creature abilities in 1.2 as well (too many to list individually as single abilities can affects hundreds of creatures), so you may see different results running PvE content after 1.2.

Currently no, but that's something we are looking at for the future.

Nothing stops you from moving BM mods into the Champion gear chest in 1.2 and matching color to chest though. You'll also get the ability to augment it in the future (we're aiming for Game Update 1.3) , so definitely hold on to that Champion shell.

Existing PvE gear will not change, no. Basically we found that way too many people have modded their PvE gear in a lot of different ways and there is no clean way for us to make changes to that gear without causing serious trouble for a large number of players (see Battlemaster for a small taste of the problem).

Since existing PvE content is also balanced for that gear, there is no pressing in game need to change the stat distribution on the gear apart from 'it is certainly not optimal' and, as you said, a lot of players have taken the matter into their own hand and already adjusted gear to their liking.

Going forward, the stat distribution on gear (Black Hole, Campaign) is significantly improved.

Answered this before, but here we go:

In 1.2 there is no way of getting a white crystal.

We will probably introduce some way to obtain the crystal through gameplay at some point in the future (definitely not in 1.2, likely not in 1.3), but whatever that ends up being, it will not be as easy as walking up to that vendor.

You are correct.

The highest augment level is 49 at this point and that does not change with this patch. Any existing augments you collected will still be top of the line for 1.2 and very likely 1.3.

Sadly, for 1.2. it will stay light armor.

We are currently working on what we call 'adaptive gear' technology for a future Game Update (hopefully 1.3) which will make social equipment morph to the correct armor type for a player. Together with the ability to infuse mod slots into existing gear, this will make social gear a completely viable option when it rolls out.

Hey,

You cannot RE a piece of gear for someone else. However, rolling for 'disassemble' (same priority as greed) in an Operation will allow any Armortech player a chance at the schematic.

The answer is that we feel that crafters are an integral role of the game economy as of Game Update 1.2.

We know there are some fears and uncertainty about this (after all, few other MMOs have done something like this and we know people get uncomfortable about such things) and we do take those concerns seriously.

Questions like 'But what if there are not enough crafters?' or 'Is there going to be enough supply?' are valid, especially on faction imbalanced servers, and we do take those seriously and have had long discussions about them before committing to this system.

Short term (1.2.x), there are going to be some changes to the way the game economy works that will alleviate a lot of these concerns.

Mid term (currently planned for Game Update 1.3), we are introducing a mechanic that allows anyone to add augment slots to any orange gear (including social), but we are doing it in a way that keeps crafters valuable. We will discuss this in more detail in a while after the 1.2 focus has died down a bit.

1) Some quests reward Warzone commendations, other reward Ranked WZ commendations. We eliminated all RNG mechanics from the PvP gear progression, so no more opening of Battlemaster bags.

2) The answer is that you probably want to use them towards an item. The longer answer is that yes, there's some things you can use your old commendations on, but how desirable they are is in the eye of the beholder.

1. No. We have done away with the faction restriction that existed for example on the purple crystal and we don't intend to reintroduce them. As such, both colors are available to both factions.

2. We are introducing PvP crafting in 1.2 with a limited set of expertise crystals (blue/yellow crystals) that are exclusive to crafters. Their schematics are obtained via Warzone commendations, as are the materials needed to craft them.

We will likely expand this system in the future, but did not feel like the RNG drive RE mechanic is the right way to go about this for 1.2. A future RE system update that lessens the RNG dependency might open the door to something like what you are describing.

No. At the current time, what you can learn for PvP is appearances and certain color crystals.

1.2. adds a number of new orange appearances, through the new endgame sets as well as through mission discoveries.

We are also looking to make additional schematics available in the future and Champion is on the list for that, for example. For 1.2, with all it's features and additional work, I think we added a good number of new endgame appearance options, but there's definitely room for a lot more
You will be able to get the Battlemaster appearance via crafted shells and transfer War Hero mods, including set bonus, into it.

Also keep in mind that we are aiming to allow you to be able to add augment slots to existing moddable shells in Game Update 1.3, so definitely hold on to that Champion set of yours if you like it.

I can confirm that it is not possible to obtain the white crystal come 1.2. Currently they are bind per character. I do think your suggestion of binding it to legacy warrants some discussion, so we'll look into that.

The word is that yes, we are aiming to provide the ability to add augment slots to any orange gear (including social gear) with a future Game Update (we're hoping for 1.3). More on this later.

First off, some colors of expertise crystals are crafter only - the schematics and materials are obtained through the PvP vendor.

We've added a low level and endgame version of the magenta crystals, with the schematic available through a number of sources in game (not just Operations).

The crystal vendor from 1.1.5 was removed and several of the crystals are now exclusive to artifice. See the complete 1.2. patch notes for details.

Hi,

There have been quite a few threads where you have voiced confusion regarding the end game itemization in 1.2 and I want to take the opportunity to clarify what you are going to see in the game when Game Update 1.2 goes live on Thursday.

One of the issues we are dealing with on the PTS Forums is that we are not only introducing changes from the current state of the game (1.1.5x), but also several changes a week. Without wiping our Forums weekly, it is inevitable that these updates cause significant confusion about what it is in the game, what is intended to be in the game, etc.

So, without further ado....

PvE

Tionese / Columi / Rakata Gear

These sets are not changing. Their stats have not changed from their pre 1.2 state and they are acquired in the same way as they were before 1.2, except for the following changes:

- The drop rate for Tionese commendations has been increased from all the existing sources.

- Columi can now be acquired, in addition to the existing sources, from the new Lost Island Flashpoint (Hard Mode) and their distribution rate has been slightly increased, mostly through weekly quests.

- Rakata can now be acquired, in addition to existing sources, from the final Boss of the new Lost Island Flashpoint (Hard Mode) and the story mode of Operation: Explosive Conflict on Denova.

A temporary change on PTS that modified some existing rakata gear has not been taken into the final version 1.2 based on testing feedback.

"Campaign" and "Black Hole" Gear

Campaign gear is the new tier of PvE set items we are rolling out with the Explosive Conflict Operation. It shares the set bonus with Rakata, allowing seamless equipment upgrades and is acquired through tokens acquired in Hard Mode of Operation: Explosive Conflict and the new World Boss on Belsavis.

All Campaign gear can also be reverse engineered for a chance to learn the associated schematic. For armor, this means a chance to learn the custom (orange) appearance of item, for implants, earpieces, mods, etc. This means learning to craft the item itself. All of these may be crafted critical for an additional augment slot or, in case of a mods, additional resulting items.

Campaign gear uses a different stat distribution from previous sets with greater variety of available stats and better base stats.

Unlike Rakata, Columi and Tionese gear, Campaign gear carries it's set bonus on the armoring of every piece. This means that players may transfer all mods and armoring out of campaign gear into any custom (orange) appearance available without losing the benefit of the set bonus. Please note that moving an armoring with a set bonus into a pre 1.2. item shell with a set bonus (e.g. a Rakata Shell) will be resolved with the armoring taking precedence (Sorry, no stacking here
As mentioned previously, all armoring found in endgame gear now 'binds to slot' upon extraction - Armoring removed from a pair of gloves will only fit into another set of gloves. However, there is the possibility to acquire 'universal' armorings that fit into any slot through direct drops (e.g. not contained in an item). Those however will never carry a set bonus.

Black Hole Gear is similar to Campaign gear, but lacks the set bonus. It does however offer additional stat distribution options not available on Campaign gear. It also cannot be reverse engineered into appearances (although mods / earpieces, etc. can be learned).

Black Hole gear, unlike Campaign items, is acquired from trading in Black Hole Commendations found through weekly quests in the new Corellia area as well as the weekly quest for the Rise of the Rakghoul flashpoints (Kaon/Lost Island). It also drops on bosses in Operation: Explosive Conflict on all difficulties.

Two new color crystal variations may be found as part of the random drops in the new Operation: Black Core Purple and Black Core Orange. These colors are introduced separately from the weapons, which now come by default with more traditional colors available. It is worth noting that we are not extending the stat progression on crystals, meaning the existing +41 crystals found in 1.1.5 continue to be the top end of the crystal progression.

PvP

Centurion and Champion

Centurion and Champion gear, as of 1.2, has not changed, but will no longer be available for purchase. Existing gear on characters of course stays in the game.

Recruit Gear

Recruit gear is the new, blue entry level PvP gear available from the new PvP Recruit vendor on the fleet. It is acquired directly through credits without any Valor requirement and serves as a bootstrap to enable players coming straight out of the leveling game to participate in endgame PvP in the 50+ bracket. Power wise, it sits between Centurion and Champion, but lacks the set bonus and cannot be modified.

Battlemaster Gear

Battlemaster Gear, as of 1.2, no longer requires a 60 Valor rating and is acquired straight through Warzone commendations at the Battlemaster PvP vendor on the fleet.

As of 1.2, Battlemaster gear features an increased budget of expertise and an update stat distribution on a small subset of items on some classes.

These changes to the stat distribution are a result of issues fixed with the original Battlemaster set of mods. As mentioned before, we will automatically update your Battlemaster items to the new version when you log into the game the first time after 1.2 has been deployed, provided that the items still contain their original mods. Reinserting these mods into the existing gear will suffice for this purpose.

War Hero Gear

War Hero gear is the new tier of PvP items introduced with patch 1.2. It is acquired through trade in of 'ranked warzone commendations' and the corresponding Battlemaster Shell (empty appearance, mods may be extracted before trade-in). Some items do not require a Battlemaster trade-in but instead can be acquired by warzone commendations. War Hero gear does not require a valor rating.

I found this community created image to be a nice visual summary of the situation (although prices may still change as we put finishing touches onto the patch).

Just as with Campaign gear, War Hero items carry their set bonus on the armoring and all mods, including the armoring which may be extracted and moved into any custom (orange) shell in the game.

An additional upgrade option exists for players who wish to benefit from an additional augment slot but retain their Battlemaster or War Hero appearance: It is possible for crafters to obtain the schematics to create orange (and potentially augmented) version of the armor through 'schematic boxes' on the PvP vendor and sell the resulting items to players via the GTN.

It is worth noting that these crafted appearances will require the player to have Valor Rank 60 (Battlemaster) or 70 (War Hero) to equip.

As a side note, we will allow trading of Warzone commendations into ranked Warzone commendations at a ratio of 3:1.

All in all, PvP gear in 1.2 features a much stronger focus on Expertise in itemization and the diminishing returns cap for this stat has been modified to account for that change.

Color crystal wise, we've added Expertise crystals of various colors for direct purchase via warzone / ranked commendations, as well as crafted PvP expertise crystals of several colors.

Any more questions? I'll be monitoring this thread for a while and try to clarify what I can.

All game servers will be offline during this period. SWTOR.com will be available. This maintenance is expected to take no more than eight hours, but could be extended.

Please note the timing on this maintenance period, which is beginning earlier than usual.

Game Update 1.2 – Legacy introduces new content and features for all Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ players. Earn new rewards and build your family tree with the expanded Legacy System, explore Lost Island, a new Flashpoint, challenge the new Operation: Explosive Conflict, and face off against your foes (or your allies) in Novare Coast, a new Warzone. Thank you to everyone who participated in Wednesday’s Ranked Warzone Testing Event. Your feedback has been very valuable. We’ve made a few adjustments based on your feedback since Wednesday so we would like to get your help again! If you have a level 50 character on the Public Test Server, please join us today starting at 2PM CDT (12PM PDT/ 3PM EDT/ 8PM GMT/ 9PM CEST/ 1AM AEDT), and queue up only for Ranked Warzones. Our developers will be observing this event and are looking for bug reports and feedback from our PTS testers.

During the event, we encourage you to test as many areas as possible by queuing with full and partial groups and by watching you your ranking numbers change. In order to fully test ranking changes, you may need to complete 10-15 Ranked Warzone matches. We appreciate your participation and are looking forward to seeing your bug reports and feedback in this thread (we will open the thread before the event)!

Please focus on the questions below when providing your feedback:
  • Did you consistently get placed into Ranked Warzone matches?
  • Did you try to queue as an Operations Group of 5 – 8 players? If so, how long, on average, did it take to find a match?
  • Once you started getting Rating shifts, how much did your rating shift when you won and lost?
  • Is there anything about the Ranked system that you feel is unclear and needs to be better explained to the player?
  • Did you feel that the competition inside Ranked Warzones had better team balance than normal queues? Did your opinion on the balance between teams change as the test continued and players ratings were adjusted?

The original note:

"Ataru Form damage effects (procs) now deal weapon-based damage instead of Force-based damage. The overall damage of these effects has been increased by approximately 10%."

is now correct! Initially, it was discovered that this note was not correct (the first change on PTS did not adjust the damage correctly), but the issue has since been addressed, and damage from Ataru Form effects has been increased.

Everyone, thanks for all the feedback. I've been slowly working my way through all of your comments and compiling them for our art department; so thank you for taking the time to comment.

You may have also seen a comment about armor sets from Daniel in last Friday's Q&A - if you haven't, here's what he said:

Public Test Server -> PTS Testing Event 4/4: Ranked Warzones

We are seeking additional focus testing for Ranked Warzones and need your help! If you have a level 50 character on the Public Test Server, please join us today starting at 3PM CDT (1PM PDT/ 4PM EDT/ 9PM GMT/ 10PM CEST/ 2AM AEDT), and queue up only for Ranked Warzones. Our developers will be observing this event and are looking for bug reports and feedback from our PTS testers.

During the event, we encourage you to test as many areas as possible by queuing with full and partial groups and by watching your ELO ranking changes. In order to fully test ELO ranking changes, you may need to complete 10-15 Ranked Warzone matches. We appreciate your participation and are looking forward to seeing your bug reports and feedback in this thread (we will open it when the event begins)!

Please focus on the questions below when providing your feedback:
  • Did you consistently get placed into Ranked Warzone matches?
  • Did you try to queue as an Operations Group of 5 – 8 players? If so, how long, on average, did it take to find a match?
  • Once you started getting Rating shifts, how much did your rating shift when you won and lost?
  • Is there anything about the Ranked system that you feel is unclear and needs to be better explained to the player?
  • Did you feel that the competition inside Ranked Warzones had better team balance than normal queues? Did your opinion on the balance between teams change as the test continued and players ratings were adjusted?

These notes detail changes made to the PTS server on 4/4/2012. These changes apply ONLY to the PTS server.


Flashpoints and Operations

Flashpoints

Lost Island
  • Corrected an issue that caused Hybrid Rakghoul Brutes and Gunners to respawn during this Flashpoint.

The False Emperor
  • Removed an invisible barrier that could prevent completion of this Flashpoint.
Operations

Explosive Conflict
  • Toth uses his Area of Effect Smash less frequently.
  • Toth is no longer invulnerable during his berserk phase.
  • An issue that could cause Zorn to execute Baradium Heave at an incorrect target has been addressed.
  • The Stormcaller Blast tank can no longer be taunted while it is activating Double Destruction.
  • Corrected an animation issue affecting Kephess Walkers.
  • Kephess' Area of Effect ability is now shown in the correct place for all Operation Group members.

Legacy
  • Localized versions of Legacy emotes now work correctly.


PvP

General
  • Daily and weekly PvP missions now reward 99 Warzone Commendations.

Warzones

General
  • The PvP matchmaking system for Ranked Warzones now searches for a longer period of time before matching a large queued group of players with a smaller one.
UI

Galactic Trade Network
  • GTN searches now take the level range entered by the player into account when searching "Usable By" (instead of automatically searching for a +5/-5 level range).

Miscellaneous Bug Fixes
  • Corrected an issue that could cause players to get stuck in a falling state on some terrain.
  • Character eyes no longer appear to be pink if Character Texture Atlasing is set to the "High" option.
  • Desktop resolution is now restored correctly when the game is exited if its fullscreen mode resolution differs from the desktop resolution.
  • Added an appropriate error message for a guild issue that may occur under extremely rare circumstances.
  • Some minor mapnote, cinematic, text, and art issues have been corrected.

The item set changes just haven't fully propagated to the server yet, the items created from those schematics will be BoE with one of the next updates to PTS.

Location: Room 105 in the Boston Exhibiton & Convention Center (e.g. the BioWare Base)
What: Meet the developers of The Old Republic, grab some drinks, and hang out with the rest of the SW:TOR community!

You will need a PAX badge to get into the convention center, but the room itself is open to all PAX attendees. We hope to see you there!

Public Test Server -> 1.2 moddable item questions

Modded waists and wrists are still rare in 1.2, but there are a few more of them. When waists or wrists are modifiable, they do not have the third slot (because they have lower stats than the chest/head/legs/hands/feet).

Earpieces and implants don't support mods.

Is this an intended change or a bug?
The opposite should be true - some companion weapons had mods added to them.

Does the gear you're seeing show any stats on it aside from force or tech power? Can you list any other specific companion items where you're seeing this? There's a bug (fix coming soon) that results in a number of items on PTS that have no mods on them. Checking Kira's Double-bladed Lightsaber, I see four mods, all green quality:

Green Color Crystal - L8 +2 End
Hilt - L14 +6 End +4 Will
Mod - L14 +2 End +8 Will
Enhancement - L14 +8 End

Tempting as it is to continue the gag...

... no, a Ship Droid feature is not part of Game Update 1.2. This was an April Fool's joke and we hope you enjoyed the fun. (For anyone who was concerned the videos you saw as part of the update took up development time, it was all achieved through the magic of video editing.) Of course, part of any April Fool's joke is seeing how many people you can fool, hence our generally po-faced attitude on places like Twitter. Hopefully you can induldge us for one day out of the year.

Spurred by the joke, a lot of people have expressed excitement over the idea of mini-games in The Old Republic. This is something that's always been a potential future feature, but we've got no announcements to make on that right now. We'd probably also try to ensure they were more fun than re-padding ship seats.
